Advocate, Teacher, School Administrator, and Parent.

Takes one to know one.

We know all four.

Jenn Fox-Thomas has been an educational advocate since 2018. She has a Master’s Degree in Special Education from George Washington University, and has completed the Special Education Advocate Training (SEAT 2.0) through the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (www.copaa.org).

Jenn entered the education arena as a special education teacher at The Kingsbury Center, progressing as a special education inclusion teacher and general ed teacher in local DC schools. She expanded into Special Education administration overseeing special education services. Throughout her 12 years in schools, she has attended hundreds of IEP, 504 Plan, and RTI (Response to Intervention) meetings. In the school setting, Jenn honed her craft of building IEPs that support students to thrive.

Jenn transitioned from schools to the community as a Director of Education and Engagement at a local non-profit supporting underserved families. In this role she advocated for parents, representing, supporting and training parents in how to navigate our area’s school districts. In this capacity, Jenn built, trained and led a small team of educational advocates who provided the non-profit’s underserved families with direct advocacy at the IEP table.

To widen her availability to families, Jenn began Fox Advocacy in Education, LLC. Today Jenn provides both pro-bono and sliding scale services so that access to advocacy is not a barrier for a student. Always, in her work with families, Jenn draws on her experiences as the parent of awesome children with special needs. Her experience and training inform her work with families as they navigate the special education processes of local school districts and non-public placement.

Over her career, Jenn has also actively participated in community and school-based initiatives to decrease the impact of racism in our schools and provide educational equity to students whom our system has underserved. This focus on social justice and equity has remained integral to Jenn’s service as she continues to participate in local equity initiatives, DC Council hearings, and local parent empowerment groups. She is an active longtime D.C. resident.

Fox Advocacy is based in DC but supports students in DC, Maryland and Virginia schools. After review of the child’s educational documents, we provide parents with our expert opinion while understanding that every parent is a true expert on their child. We seek to make your informed “parent voice” a strong factor at all school meetings. We seek to empower parents to fully understand the layout of their school district, their options in it, and how to navigate through it. We believe that collaborative school-and-parent partnerships are the most effective in securing quick connections to services. We also know that, at times, preparation for legal support may become necessary. In such situations, we prepare your case and support your referral to an experienced education attorney.

Our mission is to support YOU to achieve OUTCOMES for your student. And we look forward to meeting you.
